MAIL RELAYING

Why do I receive a message like "This recipient is not acceptable to the mail server"?

Trans-Video.Net has a strong system in place to prevent unsolicited email ("spam") -- and that includes the refusal to relay mail, that is, to send mail from outside your own Trans-Video.Net connection.

There are two issues to this:

  1. You must use smtp.trans-video.net as your outgoing mail setting.
  2. You must sign up for a web-based email system (such as Yahoo or Hotmail) if you want to use email away from home.

The first issue is that our mail servers make sure you're a legitimate Trans-Video.Net user, and are not merely trying to use our email system to send spam. (Legitimate customers who do send spam violate Trans-Video.Net's Terms of Service.)

For those of you with web host email or other alternative email services, you may use your existing return address in your Trans-Video.Net mail setup, and the email will get to you normally.

The second issue is one we're working to make easier. Spam email puts a great drain on resources as millions of uwanted messages clog the Internet's gateways and choke our servers. That's why "open mail relays" -- the standard on the Internet just a few years ago -- have been closed. You can send email using only the ISP you're connected to (Trans-Video.Net in our case). Note: Wherever you are, if you can get on line and have your Outlook, Netscape Mail, or Eudora with you, you can check your email.

I travel and want to use email on the road. How do I do that?

There are two solutions to sending email from out of town.

  1. Obtain a web-based email system from services like Yahoo, HotMail, or AOL. You can send and receive email with these services when you're on the road.
  2. Wait for a few months. Trans-Video.Net will give you secure, web-based access to your email when you are away from your home computer for both sending and receiving email. We'll let you know with announcements on our Trans-Video.Net home page when this service is ready.

I'm still confused. How do I fix this problem?

When you're connected to Trans-Video.Net, make sure your system settings are set up correctly and, if you're away from home, use a web-based email service.
